Goods stuff here. We really need to be talking about this topic more. I obviously talk a lot about climate change issues. But this subsidence problem (for Houston & many other places) is also a very, very big deal -- *especially* when compounded by climate change issues.
Multiple Houston suburbs are sinking fast as a rapidly growing population is creating rising demands for groundwater. Here are the billion-dollar solutions Texas officials are working on to mitigate this mostly irreversible phenomenon.

I took structural geology, a tectonics seminar, and Geology of North America from Ed Beutner while at Franklin & Marshall College. I will never forget him. Heart Mountain was one of his big professional puzzles.

⚒️ Seems a good excuse to note that this whole part of the world seems to have been a mega-landslide (and probably relatedly, large explosive volcano) wonderland in the Cenozoic. In addition to Heart Mountain, Markagunt in Utah and now this one near Salt Lake City have been identified.

For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.

Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.
