Council data obtained by the Guardian shows 345 children have gone missing in recent years, many probably taken by traffickers
More than 50 lone child asylum seekers who disappeared soon after arriving in the UK and while in the care of the authorities are still missing, according to data obtained by the Guardian.
Many of the missing children arrived in small boats or hidden in the backs of lorries and are thought to have been taken by traffickers. Kent is often the place where they arrive. Continue reading...

actually important to keep this information warm because an incredible number of people outside of the internet techosphere have no clue they are literally just "a bunch of math tacked onto a random number generator"
I wish, yet again, they hadn’t been called “AI” as it’s led to people believing these LLMs are doing something like thinking.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

A very succinct summation of why AI isn't going to be the thing they say it is. There's no road to there from where we are.
In other words, when you ask for example “do vaccines cause autism?” you are looking for information about whether a thing in the world (a vaccination) produces an outcome (autism). But the LLM can only answer “what words could sound right after this?”
