Yes, it's exciting! Yes, it's super promising! Yes, the n for each group is 15! Yes, there are some important asterisks to the work! Yes, it's findings on estrogen levels are WAY MORE IMPORTANT!
This is a promising and exciting study, but there are some ENORMOUSLY IMPORTANT asterisks to the top-line that this article is blowing past.
This is a PROSPECTIVE study. Absolutely nothing definitive. They're trying to set the stage for later, larger research.

For those who haven't experienced their poetry, this is one of their most well-known pieces and one whose words and video have brought me to tears many times.
"You don't want a soft death.
You want a hard life
that is your life."

A gender dysphoria diagnosis is a lot like a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy (tingly and painful fingers)--it's the result of something else: being forced to live as someone we're not. That's inherently traumatic.
And treating symptoms will never resolve either condition.

I already knew a bit about trans stuff so the more obvious bits didn't land but the panel about "you don't identify with yourself" hit like a brick to the head. bsky.app/profile/maeg...
The rest of the epiphany series is in the skeets that follow.

1. older term from a pretty particular cultural context (African American Ballroom scene)
2. therefore in-group in intent and implications
3. out of context becomes very hit or miss because all that is lost
4. implications become a free for all the more people use it based on vibes.
I still don’t like the term, but i guess it is coming from within the community.
I’m just old.
Because as near as I can tell, every trans woman I've met either hates it or is ambivalent; no one is pushing for it.
It just seems to be the kind of people who love ally cookies.

upper right: a little under 2 yrs. bottom right: about 2.5 years.
And then a couple in the last few days. It's finally really settling, and is continuing to do so, and it's great.

A vote is a choice of an agenda.
Beecause after election day an agenda IS getting enacted.
You can hold back your vote from Democrats all you want, but do you really letting the Republicans back into power is going to help anyone...anywhere?
