In 2019, the last time Alberta was awash in separatist nonsense, CBC Calgary commissioned me to write this essay. I re-read it today - and it seems to me as true as ever. And I thought this weekend might be a good time to share it with you, my new Bluesky friends. #Alberta #cdnpoli #abpoli #ableg

Imagine hiring an artist-in-residence at a Canadian college, and then publicly censoring that artist for a “political statement” based on complaints by USAmericans during a Canadian sovereignty crisis.

Did they WANT to be famous for all the wrong reasons?

Kudos to the artist, shame on the college.
Canadian media:

Artist Christopher Griffin (Ottawa and PEI based) has just left his Artist in Residence position at Atlantic Veterinary College because US professors objected to a painting. He was given the option of taking it down, or leaving.

He left.

In my experience, Alberta’s cities are full of smart, creative “get-it-done” people. When I was planning for Calgary, my sense was that if they could diversify toward sustainable energy, they would be a next-level powerhouse.

It’s so hard to watch Danielle Smith’s broken ideology hold them back.

So we’ve got Doug Ford saying he was 100% thrilled Trump won the election, we’ve got Poilievre’s CPC saying Canadians being patriotic because of Trump is a problem for the CPC campaign, and there’s Danielle Smith enjoying brunch crepes at Mar-a-Lago.

These Conservatives are just not worth the cost.

There is never default stability. There is never default democracy. There is never default freedom.
There are never default good vibes.

Any time we have enjoyed these things, it's because we worked to guarantee them and we were fortunate enough to have been successful.
