Oh my
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Wow! This is impressive and unheard of in many quarters. Scrutiny is so important. I'm concerned with media - and many areas of academia - not open to such critical review.
Der Spiegel arranges for an academic scholar of media to produce — quarterly — an evaluation and critique of the magazine on any subject the scholar finds important. The latest, "Knowing Ignorance," is on Der Spiegel's climate coverage. Bernhard Poerksen is the author. www.spiegel.de/internationa...

"Media companies that replace their writers with AI, continue to chase traffic by doing the same articles everyone else is doing, and focus heavily on appeasing social media platforms will continue to struggle," @jasonkoebler.bsky.social predicts.

I'll modify this to say that some people's opinion should be given much greater weight than others. How to grow without asking trusted people for improvement advice??
It's freeing to realize that you can't control what others think, so there's no point in letting it affect your happiness. Embrace who you are, love who you are, and remember that your worth isn't determined by anyone else's opinion.

Agreed: Scholastic #Bookfair for adults. There's a business idea in this.
Instead of another anime/comic con, we need a Scholastic Book Fair con with dozens of vendors selling fun reading accessories. I use to set money aside as a kid to make sure I got the best bookmarks, erasers and fun trinkets 😂

The deep goal of bluesky is to decentralize the social internet so that every individual controls their experience of it rather than having it be controlled by 5 random billionaires. Everyone thinks they signed up for a demuskified twitter...we actually signed an exciting and bizarre experiment.

People are often surprised when I tell them this: both Twitter and Facebook/insta/threads are now specifically engineered to downgrade, hide, suppress real journalism. If this platform is different, that's a huge change
