De Blasio won the Dem primary by running an ad about ending stop & frisk that included his Black 14 year old son Dante. The NY Post and the NYT never forgave him for "injecting race into the process" & defeating their darling Christine Quinn, who had spent years sucking up to both papers.
There was a lot of consternation in the press about what De Blasio did exactly to make the NYPD turn their backs on him. What horrible mistake could he have made?
And, the reality is, the actual reason they never trusted him and saw him as a pure enemy was because his wife was black.
