My grandmother herself had a younger brother who died on his ninth birthday. I knew this story from childhood. What haunts me now is the matter of fact way she talked about it; these were just things that happened.

It is always a tragedy when children die. Always.

We can talk about what we must do to keep children safe.

But by god, if I see anyone saying that THESE children--for whatever set of "these children" you are seeing--deserve it, I will block you on sight.

I just want everyone to be quite sure that they can always say "Yes" when the group asks questions that boil down to "Did you do this in the narrative on purpose"

It's not about defensibility. It's about intent and craft choices. :)
