Merry gentlefolk, it is time.

Today is the day.

Today is comma-mas.

Today is the day where we contemplate the correct placing of the comma in 'God rest you merry, gentlemen'.

And if we are lucky, we can have a row about it.

Phew! I am now on annual leave!! Dentist, then heading to Berlin for a few days with my son, followed by a quiet Christmas at home ❤️

No doubt I shall remember some work-related sins of omission that will have to be addressed before Christnas Eve, but I’m basically done for the year!

There is no point having an ethylene plant if we have no university chemistry departments left, training chemists and chemical engineers.
The government's keenness to protect "good jobs" in manufacturing contrasts with its inaction in the face of the destruction of "good jobs" in universities. What's going on here is something other than economics.

There’s no point handwringing about the Arts Council’s problems if we don’t fix the Tories’ austerity-fixated destruction of the pipeline.

If arts education is not rapidly restored in UK schools & universities THERE WILL BE NO ARTS to sponsor or give grants to.

Again and again, the optimal position when legally threatened by Trump is to be resolute in defence and prepare for court.

You will likely not then have to go to court, as he will fold or settle.

But if you seek to settle from the off, he has got you and he will crush you.
Everyone should stand up to this bully.

The blissful unawareness of millennials who do not remember the threat of the USSR and mutually assured destruction.

If you were 5 when the Berlin wall came down and grew up in the West in the decade of hope that was the 1990s, maybe you just have zero radar for Russian aggression.

Which is real.
What are you even talking about! I am saying it is a delusional fantasy to suggest Russia is going to invade European countries like Poland, Germany or indeed the UK, which is the insane drivel currently being promoted in support of a disastrous arms race.

This man is the best of us.
Ahmed al Ahmed, the man who tackled one of the Bondi killers, became an Australian citizen 3 years ago.

His deed was "his way of conveying his gratitude for staying in Australia, for being granted citizenship."

He took 5 bullets, and fears he'll lose his left arm.

I have a confession. My latest book — all 110,000 award-winning words of it, funded by £1M in European & British research grants — was in part spurred on by someone else's book, which was SO confidently, utterly wrong that, well

Here I stand: I could do no other

Brownie points if you guess whose 😉

"Nobody is required to listen to anyone, for any reason. If someone started yelling opinions at you in the street or at a party, you’d walk away."

This is old but feels relevant again: people can use social media in whatever way they like, stop complaining that they're doing it wrong.
