An organisation is only ever as good as the people who work in it. I've now been at @biologists.bsky.social for 14 years, and there's no way I'd have stayed so long were it not for the friendly, talented and dedicated people I get to work with every day. #biologists100
As we reflect on the past 100 years, one thing becomes clear: the impact we have had on the communities we serve is only possible because of our inspiring and motivated staff. Read more about the people behind the Company here: bit.ly/44nyx2r

A deep dive into the backstory of @dev-journal.bsky.social and why it changed its name (spoiler - it's not *just* because Journal of Embryology and Experimental Morphology was such a mouthful!). Many thanks to Nick Hopwood for researching and writing this. journals.biologists.com/dev/article/...
Identities of an embryology journal in a molecular age; or, How Development got its name
ABSTRACT. Journals build identities to attract authors and subscribers. Name changes make the stakes explicit. This article explains how the plain Journal of Embryology and Experimental Morphology (JE...

If you’re not aware of BiO’s Fast & Fair initiative, do listen to this podcast or find out more on the website (journals.biologists.com/bio/pages/fa...). We’re trying to tackle two big issues with the peer review process - how to make it quicker & how to recognise the crucial work of peer reviewers

Publication integrity has always been a big part of what we do @biologists.bsky.social but it’s more challenging than ever these days. Lots of people contribute to this work, but a special shout-out today to our awesome in-house integrity team. Thanks for all you do! #PublicationIntegrityWeek
It’s #PublicationIntegrityWeek, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who support us in our integrity work on the journals – helping to ensure the papers we publish can be trusted. 1/10

Compared to other publishers, The Company of Biologists is small fry with fewer than 70 staff supporting 5 journals from a single office. But, for over 100 years now, it’s punched above its weight in innovation, prestige and community support.
This week has been special for us, marking 100 years of supporting biologists and inspiring biology. We celebrated our achievements at @zoologymuseum.bsky.social last night. We want to thank all our staff, whose continual inspiration and daily support for one another make our work possible.

Very saddened to hear of John Gurdon’s passing. I’ve been lucky enough to interact with him at multiple points through my career - from undergrad lectures, through his position as former Chair of @biologists.bsky.social’s Board of Directors, and as an author at @dev-journal.bsky.social.
Nobel Laureate Professor Sir John Gurdon dies aged 92
It is with great sadness that the University shares the news of the death of Professor Sir John Gurdon, founder of the Gurdon Institute.

As a former fly pusher, this news hits hard: FlyBase is such a critical resource for the community. My thoughts are with the dedicated individuals at Harvard whose jobs have been cut, and the broader FlyBase team whose future is in question.

Seconded. Ethan is one of @dev-journal.bsky.social's Pathway to Independence fellows this year, and - on top of his great research programme - has been super-active in the @prelights.bsky.social community.
@ethanewe.bsky.social is on the job market and you want him as your colleague! On top of everything that he already published he also has a few especially amazing papers in the works... (soon!)
#worm25 is greatly missing the enthusiasm of @ethanewe.bsky.social at this meeting! He gave a great virtual talk this morning, featuring a hot-off-the-presses story from his postdoc in the Rechavi lab. 🤩
He's also applying for faculty jobs this cycle, so keep an eye out for his application! 🙌

I just heard this too. Terribly sad news - Pete's work really exemplified the path from basic science all the way through to the clinic.
Terribly saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Pete Coffey. Pete was a true pioneer in regenerative medicine, overcoming many challenges to develop a cell therapy for age-related macular degeneration. A greatly under-rated scientist and a genuine down to earth person.
