Surely papers written in the early 2010s no longer count as 'new work' (definitely not asking as a result of claims being made in a paper I'm reading)

Just had a paper rejected from BEQ. It is what it is...

At the same time, these are undoubtedly the best reviewer reports I've gotten. 3 excellent engagements with the paper. Supportive, incisive and insightful, while critical at the same time (obviously, as the paper was rejected).
