“The old order is not coming back. We should not mourn it.. But from the fracture, we can build something better, stronger, and more just. This is the task of the middle powers, who have the most to lose from a world of fortresses and the most to gain from a world of genuine cooperation.”
Mark Carney's speech really is terrific: full text is here and very much worth your time.

Vulgar, insulting, dishonest, nonsensical. Greenland, GreenIce or is it Iceland that he’s demanding? China has no wind farms (they have the biggest). You’d all be speaking German without us. He came across like a low-life mafia boss operating a giant protection racket. How embarrassing.
Trump is giving a deranged, rambling monologue in Davos to an audience stunned into silence. He sounds incredibly tired, his voice raspy; he keeps trailing off into long pauses. It's jaw-dropping.

The sanewashing headlines are going to say "Trump Doubles Down On Greenland Demand In Davos Speech"

Desperate and demented… it’s all unravelling around him.
Trump: "Something has to be done about Fake Polls! They are truly OUT OF CONTROL. We have Greatest Economy in the History of our Country, the Strongest Border, nobody has ever done a job like I have done, & they have me in the low 40s... Death toll in Afghanistan when NATO answered the US’s call:
- 453 Britons
- 158 Canadians
- 89 French
- 59 Germans
- 53 Italians
- 44 Danes
- 17 Spaniards
“Stayed a little back, off the front lines “!
No one in the media will call him out over this lie or any of the others he spouts.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."

The Draft-Dodger-in-Chief has upset a hell of a lot of America’s allies who immediately responded when the US called for NATO armed forces support after 9/11. Not sure US citizens appreciate the level of distress and disgust he has caused, especially to the families of those who gave their lives.
A hideous, unbelievable insult to our allies, who suffered a full third of the war dead in Afghanistan. And this from a soulless swine who knows everything about using his bone spurs to stay all the way back, entirely off the front lines.

Every day, he shames the United States as a nation.

Farage makes no secret of his admiration for the ugly politics of Trump, Vance, Musk and Andrew Tate.. and his willingness to do Putin’s bidding (eg, Brexit). We just have to hope that fair-minded British people will ultimately choose tolerance and kindness over anger and division and reject Reform.
“We have sacrificed our national success because of our fear of immigration. And now, if Farage has his way, we'll do it all over again”

Superb, important analysis of the profound harm Farage does to our country in his rabidly racist and egotistical bid for power

Letter to the FT that stingingly sums up Brexit and the shit creek we now find ourselves in.
A terrible idea (naive, prejudiced and uninformed) that has deeply divided us and left us poorer and less secure… but unwilling to face up to the damage we’ve done to ourselves. While the EU moves on.

Farage’s links with these people need wider scrutiny. Who is pulling the Reform UK leader’s strings?
There’s more to the Epstein Bannon Farage connection than this.

Epstein was actively guiding Bannon how to secretly finance ‘The Movement’ — a right wing pan Europe organisation in concert with Farage — set up by his partner Laure Ferrari

Absolutely.. government should be calmly articulating the benefits to the UK of legal immigration. Time to be bold and put some clear water between themselves and Reform on immigration rather than chasing them down far-right rabbit holes.
The unravelling of Reform's xenophobic and half-baked proposals on ILR would be ideal time for Govt to say its own proposals, which I described as "not just unfair and vindictive, but economically irrational" will *not* apply retrospectively to migrants already here.
