I’ve started to write a book in a different series while my first book is on sub! It happens to have a ticking clock. Great article to read by @reneefountain.bsky.social for those whose characters have a set amount of time to accomplish something!
⏳ Ticking clocks aren’t just for hidden explosives—they’re how you make a story feel like time is of the essence.

Whether it’s a breakup ultimatum, a big game, or the last summer before everything changes, urgency drives momentum in almost every genre.

You don't need followers, or a high-volume posting strategy, to meaningfully boost your work's visibility on Pinterest. I find that it's often the forgotten social media network—although as author Melissa Bourbon points out, it's not in fact social media.

Pinterest isn’t just for recipes, DIY projects, and home decor—it’s also a goldmine for authors who understand how it really works.

“A solid hook is great, but if there’s no story behind it, you won’t keep the reader engaged for long.”

Is your novel too long? Cutting prologue, unnecessary POV, and travel are three of eight ideas @ginad129.bsky.social gives to slim down word count.

#WritingCommunity, please take note! If you're submitting queries, please remember to include the STAKES--they're super important! I'm seeing a lot of great writing in my query inbox, but if I don't know what the stakes are, I have to pass bc I can't read every sub & hope the stakes are there.

Great trick for deciphering emotional showing vs telling.

#writing #writingcommunity
How do you show emotion instead of telling your reader what a character is feeling?

Watch film and tv. That’s all showing. Pay attention to the emotional reactions.

How do you know what the character is feeling? Describe what you see. That’s showing.

- write more

And there’s like a 50% that you need more and/or better feedback.
