Resources for Writers, Part 5: Software

I only have one item to "list" here, and it's Scrivener. It's my favourite writing app, simply because of how you can organize all the pages and resources of your project in one place.

When should your narrator not be the same person as the main character (MC)?
- When you want to create distance between the reader and your MC.
- When you want to hide information that the MC knows.
- When your protagonist is a character who wouldn't tell their story in an engaging way.

If you're having fun writing something, readers will probably have fun reading it, too. But if writing is hard some days, that doesn't mean the story is bad. #Writing

If you see editors or other publishing professionals asking for "Standard Manuscript Format," this usually means a Word document, 8.5" x 11", 12-point Times New Roman, 1" margins on all sides, double spaced.

Not sure what point of view (POV) to write your novel from? Here's a quick run-down:

1st person
- Uses "I" and "me"
- limited (narrator can't tell readers anything they don't know)
- the most intimate POV
- common in YA
