Me explaining Wuthering Heights to my husband and how it is not, in fact, a romance by modern genre standards and most of the adaptations only focus on the first half of the book—but it was still my fave classic bc PNR wasn’t a thing yet when I was in school so it was as close as I could get

I’ve been thinking a lot about how part of me feels like I’m supposed to be all mid-century modern. Like a Chipotle.
But all I’ve got are vintage armchairs patched up with embroidered fabric scraps and quilts made of old graphic tees. And like Chipotle is fine, but I don’t really wanna live there

Many writers understand interiority but struggle applying it to their own story.

Interiority=
Thoughts
Emotions
Reactions
Visceral responses
Helps reader connect to POV character
Shares details about plot & character

Using combo of showing + telling helps reader understand what’s happening.

With heavy hearts, we are sad to share with the #RevPit community that we are losing one of our beloved editors and friends.

Megan Records has been holding back the progression of terminal cancer for the last two years. She is now in hospice with her family at her side during her final days.

What they say: “regulate the nervous system”

What I hear:

Are you a neurodivergent writer?

Sometimes editing can feel like looking for a forest when you’re stuck in the trees.

It doesn’t have to.

You need to work with your brain instead of against it. Find resources that work with your learning style! (aural=podcasts visual=videos, books, etc.)

You already know how to write. That’s not the knowledge you need.

What you need is to know how to apply what you know to your own query package.

If you want to discover what to focus on to make your pages and query stand out, check out my Query Strategy Review:

Remember not to jump into changes without a plan.

Check plot points against your beat sheet.

Create a reverse outline.

Note where there isn't external conflict/main plot isn't moving forward.

Create a new outline/synopsis of how scenes need to be reworked.

⏩Looking for an editor? Click the link in my bio!

Choosing an editor is a big decision. My recommendation is to look at 3 key things:

1. Editing style/do they show how to achieve YOUR vision?

2. Experience/how long & what kinds of authors?

3. Testimonials/Repeat clients?

I don't recommend trying to get this right when drafting.

But when you're revising, try highlighting all the "plot stuff" in one color and all the interiority in another color. It's a strong visual cue so you can see that balance and adjust accordingly.

When writers come to me and say they just can’t figure out the next step in writing their book, it’s often because they’re trying to take too big of a step!

I try to break things down into small, actionable chunks, so you can keep moving forward.

You’ve taken classes and workshops and read books, but struggle to apply what you’ve learned to your own work.

CPs and beta readers can give you an unbiased view of your story, and I recommend a reverse outline to see gaps.
