29. Share a moment when you felt truly supported by an editing community.

Shoutout to #EditorsTeaClub and #RevPit. Freelancing can be isolating, and I was delighted to discover these online spaces where I can meet other editors, ask questions, and feel at home.

28. What kind of stories feel most aligned with your values?

Ones that celebrate diversity. I especially want to see disability rep. I also love to see thoughtful explorations of ecological themes and social justice.

24. What does being an editor mean to you?

It means helping writers shape something they've poured their hearts and souls into, and I take that seriously. It means understanding what encourages readers to turn pages. It means loving stories and words.

23. What's a small editorial win you're proud of?

It's been my goal to write articles for other publications this year, and I've been published in The Freelancer (EFA), Editor's Weekly (Editor's Canada), and Mythcreants! Read them here: tinyurl.com/yk2ucxj8

22. "What's your "pie in the sky" dream project to edit?

I'd love to work on a litRPG like Dungeon Crawler Carl or a dark fairy tale like Nettle & Bone. I also get excited when something comps one of my top fandoms (see my favourites to get to know my taste!).

Trust your readers. Too much worldbuilding information can slow down the pacing of your novel. Is it necessary? Can readers glean the details from context? #WritingTip

21. How do you recharge after a big project?

Art. TV. Time with my husband. I have a habit of over-working, so I also bake time off into my schedule during which I have to relax. 😄

19. What book or story changed the way you edit?

Murderbot by Martha Wells clued me in to how the narrator's unique lens can impact the text itself. For example, Murderbot doesn't care what people look like, so it rarely describes their appearances.

17. What do you wish more people understood about editing?

That there are four different stages of editing (developmental, line, copyediting, and proofreading) and they need to be done in the proper order to make the best of your time.

16. What's your favorite part of the editing process?

I enjoy looking for solutions to pacing, structural, characterization, and worldbuilding issues by helping writers enhance what's already present in their story.
