1. Introduce yourself! #EditorsTeaClubCommunity #Editing

I'm Allison, a freelance book editor for fantasy, sci-fi, and horror novels (I especially love dragons, foxes, and talking spaceships). Helping writers level up their manuscripts is my jam. 1/3
There are 4 types of editing, and they should be done in this order:

1. Developmental editing (big-picture level)
2. Line editing (sentence level)
3. Copy editing (grammar)
4. Proofreading (last pass after layout is complete)

Do you use #Scrivener and like pretty colours? I have Scrivener themes in my Etsy store! I just added some #AvatarTheLastAirbender inspired ones, because I'm a nerd. Use code AVATAR to get 40% off. www.etsy.com/shop/Editors...

Are tropes "bad"? Hells, no! They became tropes for a reason—people love 'em! It can be fun to reimagine them and twist them, but there's also nothing wrong with serving them straight up. #Writing #WritingTip

My partner and I are trying to guess who will die in #StrangerThings Season 5. My guesses: Joyce and Dustin. His guesses: Steve and Will. I don't want either of us to be right. 😭

What is line editing and does your novel need it?

While developmental editing is for big-picture stuff (plot, structure, character arcs, etc.) and copyediting is about grammar and consistency, line editing is about making sure the prose is effective at a sentence level.

"Until you have a completed draft that’s as good as you’re able to make it (which may in fact wind up being your second or third or tenth draft), paying for a developmental edit may not be the best use of your money, time, or energy." Agreed! #Writing #Editing
When—and Whether—to Hire a Developmental Editor | Jane Friedman

29. Share a moment when you felt truly supported by an editing community.

Shoutout to #EditorsTeaClub and #RevPit. Freelancing can be isolating, and I was delighted to discover these online spaces where I can meet other editors, ask questions, and feel at home.

I often see querying writers asking why they are not getting any agent responses. This could be because: 1) your query letter needs work; 2) your pages need work; 3) your novel is too short/too long/doesn't fit the stated age category; 4) agents don't think it will sell for some other reason. 1/2
