Artists have a unique power to inspire change. Not just to help people feel on a visceral level the weight of problems, but also to communicate the near endless possibilities for solutions, and energize people to take action. As an artist, it’s my duty to do that. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIpu...

Today I had to sit on hold with my health insurance while they sort out with my provider why one of my claims wasn’t paid. Apparently they can’t do that unless I sit on hold the whole time while they confer. There is no more perfect time to sit and draw a historically accurate medieval trebuchet.

This was an installation I made in Boston back in 2019. I wish it wasn’t still relevant and needed. But it is.

On slow days, sometimes I like to henna things I find on the ground. Today there were lots of goose feathers on the ground near where I set up my tent at the farmers market.

I keep thinking about how women are most at risk of being murdered by abusive men after they've decided to leave the relationship and it's not exactly a subtle comparison to what's being done to the USA at the moment

We said arts are vital. But instead this all has to be real. We all could have enjoyed movies, ballets, plays, books, poetry, music, art, etc exploring this subject. But no. Now we have to live it just so there will be a story to tell. WE COULD HAVE JUST MADE UP A STORY, YOU ABSOLUTE RIVER ROCKS

if you’re an artist who ever thought “what’s the point? The world is Hell and I should do something that matters instead”

even in an ICE detention center people will treat art as sacred, seek it out, and find joy and comfort in it. You aren’t making art, you’re making hope.

I know most of the news is awful, but I’m painting this mural panel. And it’s going poorly in so many ways (part of why it’s now in my dining room instead of my garage). But I’m still at it, and I’m pretty proud of how it’s looking so far. #painting

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that an indoor cat in possession of a good home (with the freshest water and highest quality food) must be in want of the paint water. #painting

I was going to get the train today. But I am increasingly concerned at the deficit I’m running with Great Northern Rail. I buy a lot from them and they purchase nothing from me.
Tempted to apply a 20% tariff. Sure my tickets will cost 20% more but it might mean I buy fewer and reduce the deficit.

Solid advice. Keep your eye on the future victory, not the temporary doom.

This is a cast I took of myself just prior to my double mastectomy. Covered with fabric pieces and painted with henna-style designs. I’m pretty proud of how it came out.

It would be great if we could collectively stop asking people if they’re pregnant. I’m just fat. Please stop asking.

Community building unravels fascism. You don’t have to start from scratch with building community though! Find a local nonprofit and ask what volunteer help they need. They’re all struggling with decreased funding. Good advice🧵
Interesting conversation with a friend in the non-profit space yesterday. A lot of human service from local non-profits is paid for, in part, with Federal money. They have had to go through and revise language in line with recent executive orders. Why does this matter? How can you help?

My two pieces currently on display for "Our Warming Planet: “Visions of a Sustainable Future.” I’m pretty proud of how both of these came out. Above, Fox Skull; Below, Bobcat Skull. Henna on bone.
