I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

and judge pan gets at what i was gesturing towards earlier today: that this idea that the purpose of the executive branch is to effectuate the political agenda of the president is extra-constitutional. it has no basis in the text or the history for that matter!

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Last month Judge Diane Goodstein blocked SC from giving DOJ voter data.

Last week Harmeet Dhillon of the DOJ condemned Goodstein's ruling.

Yesterday Stephen Miller called "left wing judges & lawyers" as "terrorists requiring force."

Today Judge Goodstein's home is on fire, investigated for arson.

The Trump Administration’s “Compact of Excellence” for Universities is... far from excellent! Indeed, it’s unconstitutional. In this post, let me count the ways.

The Unconstitutional Conditions Doctrine and the Compact for Excellence
Members of the Trump administration love to say that federal funding is a privilege not a right and therefore something that can be granted or withheld based on changing administrative priorities.

After all the fancy constitutional arguments & faux historical glosses, this is the practical endpoint of the unitary executive theory. Because when presidential power is effectively unchecked, the only thing preventing it from devolving into authoritarianism is the decency of the officeholder.

one question to ask the editorial board is whether there is a minimum bar for what constitutes "american democracy." if most people in most states are gerrymandered out of effective political representation, is that democracy?

Yes. It's both.

It's a concentration camp in every town, and an ICE force that can take anyone anywhere, and also you may die of starvation or not getting medical care before they do.
In addition to the all horrific thing this Republican Billionaire Bill does to Medicaid and health care and nursing homes, it also gives an obscene amount of money to create a massive police state that will terrorize Americans. People need to focus on that as well.
