This Mexican Social Spider got big enough to register more detail in a photo. They only seem to live a few weeks, and I'm monitoring a 3-week-old egg!

"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"

Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.

I lurvs her so. My desk jumper came out so I could sing her some tunes while she snacked on dinner.

Looks like this unidentified Phidippus just caught herself a small bee, possibly Certina.

Psyched that suddenly there's a third potential Mexican Social Spider. So here's the second one again (better shot this am) and the third (not a great shot). And a map from iNat that shows they are not widely observed here yet.

Well, now she has a companion that just showed up on a nearby leaf. The 2nd spider's markings are ever so slightly different, but now I am leaning towards Mexican Social Spiders - Genus Mallos rather than Grey House Spider.

I'm not sure if this tiny little one that's been living on a cannabis leaf since at least last week is a Grey House Spider, Badumna longinqua, or what. It hangs out under this thin layer of web, always with a dead insect in front or over it. Is it using it for cover?

I was trying to think of something unique for today's #AugArthroAwe prompt Tri-spine Horseshoe Crab. While I was outside, I picked up some bark that had tiny algae on it, so I decided to draw on it.

There are a heap of small jumping spiders in my Oakland garden this year, as in EVERYWHERE.
Check out this beauty - perhaps a Heliophanus apiatus.

My 1st interaction with a jumping spider was in Roswell, New Mexico in 1980 when a sizable female launched off the hood of a car straight at me as I bent down to take a peek. I plan to post them as I see 'em and learn as I go. Join in!
