Hello Bluesky! Brief intro: I write novels (aka Maria Frances & Julia Niermann). I live in Berlin but have a (not-so-secret) crush on Scotland. My professional background is in science. I love talking about the creative process and about what makes us human!

This makes me feel oddly serene
Sometimes I think, "Compared to geological time, living things exist for only little blinks," but other times I think, "actually, life is one continuous chemical chain that first formed billions of years ago and every mountain range that existed back then has long since crumbled away to dust."

I've written about what dying typically looks like - not as a 'pro' or 'anti' AD piece, but in the spirit of confronting a taboo.

We've lost the easy familiarity with the patterns of dying that existed when death typically occurred in people’s own homes.

Let's talk about it 🙏

I enjoy lifting weights and so naïvely checked ‘hashtag gym’ to find likeminded folk for a bit of banter about Bulgarian split squats and military presses, and ... yeah, not quite what I was looking for 😶

Let me introduce myself: I'm a translator who has always loved books. To the point that I had my mum teach me to read at a very young age.📚
I also love coffee ☕️ so expect a lot of book and coffee posts.

You get 20 extra characters on Bluesky which is great because it means, when you copy your old tweets into Bluesky you can always add “THUS SPOKE THE LICH!” to the end and it will still fit.
