Worth noting that because Sim brought forward his proposal for a property tax freeze requiring millions in cuts with just weeks left in the budget process, this is not up for public debate and is not outlined in the documents available to councillors when they vote on this
SCOOP: Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim is planning to eliminate the city's sustainability and climate department under the guise of a push to prevent increases to property taxes in his proposed 2026 budget.

Incredibly short-sighted and irresponsible, and completely disconnected from the real values & priorities of Vancouverites. This move would be awful not only for Vancouver, but also for all the cities that Vancouver’s leadership has inspired over decades of North American sustainability leadership.

Some breaking news: in a special Vancouver Police Board meeting only announced over the weekend, the police board has requested a $50 million increase to their budget for 2026.

This comes as other departments across the city are trying to cut staff to ensure a property tax freeze for next year.

I went through this weird phase as a teenager where I watched M*A*S*H every day. (I also recruited one sister and several friends into this endeavour.) Loretta Swit was so funny and sometimes so heart-wrenching as Hot Lips Houlihan. She took this caricature of a woman and made her a whole person.

Want to know what you should read this summer? Ask a bookseller. Ask a writer. Ask a librarian. Ask a living, breathing human being. Hell, ask me! It's been a while since I've done one of these, so let's do it: one like = one summer reading book rec.
This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?
