I started today nervous as hell. I'm going to bed so relieved and happy. Australians rejected the divisive hate-mongers, the billionaires underwriting them and the media I was once proud to be part of. Thank you, Australia. #auspol

The transformation of Dutton’s political prospects has been one of the fastest ever. From looking like the next PM in January, he’s now fighting to prop up a collapsing campaign. This is the weakest frontbench the Coalition has taken to an election since 1990.
From the edge of victory to the jaws of defeat, Dutton hits the panic button
The opposition leader has begun his election campaign in shambolic fashion. He urgently needs to fix it — otherwise, we might be doomed to a Labor majority.

Journalists are trying to understand Trump’s irrational behavior, and are generally unwilling to consider the possibility that it's not some grand strategy, but a madman with increasingly diminished mental faculties.
There Is No Method to Trump’s Madness. He’s Simply Insane.
His defenders try to apply reason to his erratic, nonsensical decisions. That’s a fool’s errand—but fools abound in this administration.

The overall message of the administration is clear: The law, such as it is, exists only at the pleasure of the sitting president.

It's the normalisation of all his stupid moves that is the most horrifying. Once it would just be grist for parody; now it's indicative of how quickly people are falling into line. Dangerous and depressing.
When exactly did place names become “broadly up for grabs because of an election”?

You’re treating this madness as a normal part of a presidential election. It is not and it never has been.
I hope it's clear that I am not defending the name change. It's ridiculous! Nor do I think it's popular. My point about "values" is that once place names are broadly up for grabs depending on who wins an election, they're going to change in ways that you might not like.
