It's easy to shit all over everything.

The best response is to call it what it is and cut off the people peddling it. Don't read or watch Murdoch. Get off Twitter, Facebook & Instagram (& probably TikTok now). Curate out the bullshit.

Murray Watt wasn’t made Minister for the Environment for nothing. Labor will do a deal with the LNP to get a much of their Bill passed as is. The LNP will support land clearing and the Ministerial veto in the name of National Interest. Whereas I doubt the Greens and Teals will.

Watt wants the veto.

While the LNP wallows in denial, the Albanese govt is rewriting Australia’s most important environment law. It’s critical that the PM doesn’t try to cut deals on this law with the same climate deniers who dismantled Australia’s climate ambition last time.

Ley has had to accede to the demands of conservative Liberals and Nationals MPs.

But longer term, she risks compromising on everything, standing for nothing and becoming leader in name only. Both paths almost certainly end in rejection by voters.

This weekend, an accommodation between the Liberals and the climate deniers and coal champions in the National Party is expected to be reached. The cashed-up vested interests will be happy, but convincing urban and younger voters that their interests are served will be difficult.
