Crabby historian. Less crabby now blue skies beckon.

Fascinating. Perhaps unsurprising that in the East End in ??? it is so heavily Jewish in types of food — smoked salmon, fried fish, ‘Jewish’ beef (brisket?) & ‘worsht’. I wonder therefore if ‘collar bread’ is challah? @dranniegray.bsky.social ?

Spotted at the beautifully atmospheric Wilton’s Music Hall near Whitechapel. Saveloys, pats of butter and coffee as a real luxury.

This is excellent on ‘the angry teenager in a man’s body’ who is Canada’s leader of the opposition. But this sentence is 🔥🔥🔥

Mamdani is going to implement Karen Law. Everyone in NYC will have to demand to see the mamdanager in a nasal voice.

(Sorry, nice Karens everywhere. I don’t make the memes.)
Mamdani is going to implement Charon Law. Everyone in NYC will need to place coins over their eyes in order to pay the ferryman to cross the rivers Styx and Acheron.
Mamdani is going to implement Sharon Law. Everyone in NY will start playing netball, develop both an expertise in cricket and some terrible cold sores, and always have the worst pash rash

Hi @politico.com I think you’re missing a comma or two in there. (Or that chief of staff job was REALLY big.)

I’m no statistician, but if you buy your first house in your 30s on a 50-year mortgage, and life expectancy is low 80s, isn’t this just called — rent?
Do the math. It don’t add up

OK, hands up everyone who read this post and thought, ‘Damn, why didn’t MY parents name me Licoricia?’
Is this a golden age of sculptures of, and by, women?

Live your life in such a way that when you die people don't literally rise from the dead to shit on your grave.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

The old Andrew Cuomo: Doesn’t hear ‘No’ when women say it.

Now, THE NEW IMPROVED CUOMO (RegTM): Doesn’t hear ‘No’ when the voters shout it.
The man just can't take no for an answer.

Mamdani's line that billionaires spent more to oppose his candidacy than he proposed to tax them really says it all.

Like a company that shuts down a profitable location as soon as it unionizes. The principle of maintaining control is more important.

Excellent farewell to corrupt sexual predator Andrew Cuomo, and a look at his backers, who don’t understand that those adjectives are a negative.
Politicians like Cuomo are a relic of the past. (Did I want to title this one “Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out”? Yes, I did.) www.nytimes.com/2025/11/07/o...

Nominally about trans swimmers at Hampstead Ladies, but a really good letter: please sign & repost.

Media & politicians: there is a large no. of women supportive of trans+ community. We call on them to report truthfully about violence against women and to address the systems that perpetuate harm.

🏊‍♀️The women who swim at Kenwood Ladies Pond have already made their decision.

In 2024, almost 900 members voted to keep their trans-inclusive policy - a policy that has worked peacefully since 2019.

Now, a small campaign group is seeking to overturn that democratic decision through the courts.

Frankly, I would refuse to meet him on the basis of the Hugh Hefner wannabe jacket alone.
Canadian multimillionaire and Shark Tank guy Kevin O'Leary went on TV to say he's upset Zohran won't talk to him: "I and others who invest in real estate have tried to get a meeting to figure out what's rhetoric and what's policy. So far for me it's been crickets."

The emotion in his voice at the end is heartening.
Shapiro: He rose to some prominence by writing a book about growing up in Appalachia, where there are a whole lot of people who get SNAP. He made millions of dollars off telling their stories, and then he turned his damn back on those very people he likes to write about and claim as his own.

I apologize. I said that men would use Sheinbaum being assaulted to blame her for 'ruining' the assaulter's life.

I am ashamed. Instead men are using Sheinbaum being assaulted to blame her for a distraction.

The one thing you can guarantee: a woman's place is in the wrong.

I mean, HE SELECTED THAT FRIGGING PHOTOGRAPH. TO ANNOUNCE HIS OWN MENSWEAR LINE.
if someone is willing to pay for the products, i'd be willing to purchase these items, deconstruct them, and give them to expert tailors, shoemakers, and craftspeople for review. i will also see if i can track down the factories. i would be interested to know if these items are made in the US
