Happy #Lawyercat Anniversary for all who celebrate! It's been four years since the kitten appeared in my Zoom courtroom, and I released the 48 second video that made the whole world laugh. Here is the full video showing the big reveal at the end (in two parts because Blue sky). Enjoy!

Playing with A.I. image generation. Here's the prompt I used and the two results. I would love to see some of your results trying it as well. (I used CGPT.) It's definitely improving.

Arizona court allows AI generated video of deceased manslaughter victim to serve as family's victim impact statement at trial of his killer. Avatar recited words written by victim's surviving sister. No one objected and the judge commented on its impact. Is this ok?

After an Arizona man was shot, an AI video of him addresses his killer in court
AI experts say this is likely the first time that AI has been used in the U.S. to create an impact statement read by an AI rendering of the deceased victim

Today, the #lawyercat video was added to the YouTube Hall of Fame. The @nytimes.com named it one of the top YouTube videos of all time. It will forever be part of my story. As I've always said, "You don't choose your legacy. Your legacy chooses you!"

Absolutely agree. Mistakes are merely the byproduct of effort! In fact, this shirt draws a direct connection between the two things you mentioned! (Thanks to my friend Judge Moorehead @audrey-jam.bsky.social for the moment and the photo!)

Rice University (in Houston) had a student-body snowball fight this morning. That's right -- I said a snowball fight... IN HOUSTON.

Today I sat by assignment in the 497th District Court in Harris County. I'm hoping to sit or serve in all 254 counties during my judicial career. I have a long way to go! A loftier goal would be all 500+ district courts! Bring it on!

This reminds me of an experience I had as a lawyer. My client was being sued by a neighboring landowner who happened to be a lawyer. And a successful one at that. During cross at an injunction hearing, I grilled him about a mass mailing he had sent to every single person in the county. 1/
I woke up in a cold sweat from a nightmare last night. I was trapped in hell, called to defend the deposition of my teenage niece. She wouldn’t admit to even basic facts.

I spent half a dream hour trying to get her to admit on the record she knew what a translator was.

Sealioning (a 🧵):
Sealioning is harassment that consists of pursuing people with persistent requests for evidence or repeated questions, while maintaining a pretense of civility and sincerity. It manifests as incessant, bad-faith invitations to engage in "civil" debate.

These are hilarious, but I swear to you it feels like I've heard half of these in my courtroom.

I have a proposal for the NCAA football rules committee: Incomplete passes that both originate and terminate behind the line of scrimmage are live balls even if the ball went forward in the air. It's only a dead ball if it goes beyond the line of scrimmage. (Makes batted balls more important too!)

This quote is a fun thread about AI and personal jurisdiction. But I wanted to throw a cautionary anecdote (from personal experience) in here about the reality of presenting jurisdictional arguments in state courts. Please read on. (a 🧵)
Nice saturday morning, let's do a 3LOL student's thoughts on this!

First, my bias, I'm a CIO who is now old and cynical on technology. I use AI all the time but knowing what I know so far about law, I can see the concerns on this.

Let's see what I can find!

I’ve been won over. AI is the best.
I asked ChatGPT to brief "Trust Me v. Bro," a nonexistent case I used in response to a claim that items/information publicly released by the media is inadmissible at trial for some reason, and of course GPT was quick with the full cite and (glorious) synopsis: Trust Me v. Bro, 999 U.S. 867 (2024).
