Former judge of 394th District Court in far west Texas. Special/Private judge/arbitrator of family law and civil cases, visiting judge of all types. Also teacher, writer, and #lawyercatjudge. ♥️≠ Agree.
Playing with A.I. image generation. Here's the prompt I used and the two results. I would love to see some of your results trying it as well. (I used CGPT.) It's definitely improving.

In Texas, the allocution statement (which is not the actual "victim impact statement" defined in 56A.151 in Texas CCP) is governed by this code section (42.03). It requires someone to appear "in person" (which an AI Avatar is not) and content is limited to "the person's views." So, not ok in Texas.

Absolutely agree. Mistakes are merely the byproduct of effort! In fact, this shirt draws a direct connection between the two things you mentioned! (Thanks to my friend Judge Moorehead @audrey-jam.bsky.social for the moment and the photo!)

And here is part two of the #Lawyercat hearing (which some of you may not have seen) that I released on the 1st Anniversary of the original, showing our faces. I hope it gave you a much-needed chuckle!

Happy #Lawyercat Anniversary for all who celebrate! It's been four years since the kitten appeared in my Zoom courtroom, and I released the 48 second video that made the whole world laugh. Here is the full video showing the big reveal at the end (in two parts because Blue sky). Enjoy!

Rice University (in Houston) had a student-body snowball fight this morning. That's right -- I said a snowball fight... IN HOUSTON.

The term "sea lion" in this context arose from this comic strip. This method has now come to be a common tactic in online trolling and in pro se court appearances. Judges and lawyers should learn to recognize and effectively disarm this tactic.

It was sea lioning. Overly polite and seemingly genuine questions that are designed to derail the conversation rather than good faith attempts to elicit information. And no answer is good enough to stop the repeating of the question.

I had a little good-natured fun asking ChatGPT about this QT response to my first Post:

I asked ChatGPT to brief "Trust Me v. Bro," a nonexistent case I used in response to a claim that items/information publicly released by the media is inadmissible at trial for some reason, and of course GPT was quick with the full cite and (glorious) synopsis: Trust Me v. Bro, 999 U.S. 867 (2024).

I was presented last night with a beautiful memory book celebrating my 12 years on the bench, and it had some familiar @bsky.app faces in it! So upon looking at this pic, I noticed something very odd. Judge Hofmann and I are the same height, yet he towers over me in this pic. So I got the full shot and zoomed in on his feet. TREACHERY!!

Last night, the far west Texas community threw a celebration of my 12 years as judge. Thanks to everyone who made the event so special, particularly my friends Judges Rob Hofmann, David Canales, and Robert Cadena (left to right below) who made the long drive to attend.
