Every year on the other site I would make a pinned post asking people to send me their Star Fox-like indie projects. Over the years I've played and gotten involved with some fantastic games and back quite a few kickstarters. Happy to give feedback, edit trailers, or just say good job! Send me stuff!
As we're under two weeks from Metroid Prime 4, I had the thought that I was a sophomore in high school when Metroid Prime 3 came out. So naturally I had to go find a picture of floppy haired 2007 John to make myself feel old. This dude would fight you that the Wii was better than the 360 or PS3.

I love that Nintendo's social media manager has to pull from the same three Sylux descriptions that we've been pulling for lore content for nearly twenty years.

There is an alternate reality where Miyamoto got to this first and it became a Peppy Hare solo game.

The best part about Jesse Welles showing up on late night and being allowed to sing whatever he wants, is we know Trump is obsessed with late night TV and probably watched it.

It occurs to me that Analogue went out of their way to make sure review units of their extremely delayed Analogue 3D went out well in advance of launch despite it being impossible for anyone to purchase the hardware as it sold out. Who are you advertising to?

[Ongoing thread] New Stargate TV show

We knew it was coming!

"Amazon MGM Studios has greenlighted another series based on popular MGM IP, giving a series order to Stargate for Prime Video. The new installment in the classic sci-fi franchise comes from Martin Gero, a Stargate veteran and...."

through extensive research I have determined that the line between a game made by 30 people and a giant AAA game occurs somewhere between 400 and 500 developers. I think the best tactic now would be to systematically release games in increments of 10 devs to see what category Keighley puts them in.

So far this has been the closest to the kind of testing I want to see on this thing. Can always count on DF for that stuff. Glad to hear you can turn off overclocking. I'm very curious to dig in further with weird third-party stuff to check that the timings are consistent with original hardware.

Listening to the argument before this vote was so weird. You could tell the republicans had prepared their arguments assuming they would vote no and then at the last moment had to rework them into voting yes after Trump told them to but being vaguely mad about it.

Something Metroid Prime 4 related that's not about you-know-who...

The build I recently played had lots of helper text on-screen. You can turn off tutorials, which is nice, because I found that the info Samus got from scanning provided sufficient guidance

Couple of examples:

Zelda having a bow hopefully means she is an actual character and won't get kidnapped right away. Street clothes makes me think this is a "Ganondorf took over the castle, Impa got me out in time, lets team up and wreck shit" kinda story.

As someone who has stumbled into his own content being repackaged by larger channels but didn't have the resources to do anything about it, I can only say "get him".

I didn't talk about Miles specifically in this cuz that's a non-story and I wanted to focus on actual design critiques.

You're telling me a character at the beginning of a story has room for an arc and growth!? How dare they!
Got some thoughts out on how the Metroid Prime 4 previews have been framed. Wanted to give some context and perspective as a viewer, as press, and as a Prime fan. youtu.be/33aUDA9KnMQ

John nails it here. Sure it’s fine to have some concerns when previewing something like this, but it’s evident that after Prime 3 that this subseries was gonna dip its toes out of the usual confines of what defines Metroid. Plus, Prime 3 rocks.
Imagine writing a preview for Metroid Prime but only based on the intro. It would be a linear game that's constantly telling you what to do.

Press can only cover what they're shown but context remains key. @jtsknight92.bsky.social takes a look at the reactions to Prime 4. youtu.be/33aUDA9KnMQ

All I'm saying is that if Nintendo had given Metroid Prime 3 to reviewers under the exact same circumstances as this Prime 4 situation, they would've had the same thing to say about that game.

Sometimes I think EGM did fatal damage to Metroid by declaring Super Metroid Best Game of All Time in 2003. It calcified its status as the ideal all other Metroid games are judged. Deviations from the formula are a sin.
IGN's Beyond preview talks about it having crossed "a sacred line".
I fully agree the franchise should die if no one at Nintendo really cares to make a new one, but I can't say that's the case here and that Beyond has nothing to offer.
I let go of being a Metroid purist some years after Hunters. The franchise can't just be a string of remixed Super Metroids.

I'm also really glad we're keeping the prime 2 & 3 style fed trooper armor. Loved this design so much I shamelessly ripped it off for a student 3D animation project when I was like 15 (this screenshot is the most you'll ever see of that :P)

The vibe I'm getting from the Metroid Prime 4 previews is that the game has a tutorial with lots of dialogue and involves more characters than Prime 1. Fair complaint, but also in line with where the Prime series was when we last left it so kinda what I was expecting.
