As we're under two weeks from Metroid Prime 4, I had the thought that I was a sophomore in high school when Metroid Prime 3 came out. So naturally I had to go find a picture of floppy haired 2007 John to make myself feel old. This dude would fight you that the Wii was better than the 360 or PS3.

I love that Nintendo's social media manager has to pull from the same three Sylux descriptions that we've been pulling for lore content for nearly twenty years.

Oh hey, it's happening

through extensive research I have determined that the line between a game made by 30 people and a giant AAA game occurs somewhere between 400 and 500 developers. I think the best tactic now would be to systematically release games in increments of 10 devs to see what category Keighley puts them in.

Listening to the argument before this vote was so weird. You could tell the republicans had prepared their arguments assuming they would vote no and then at the last moment had to rework them into voting yes after Trump told them to but being vaguely mad about it.

Zelda having a bow hopefully means she is an actual character and won't get kidnapped right away. Street clothes makes me think this is a "Ganondorf took over the castle, Impa got me out in time, lets team up and wreck shit" kinda story.

Funny story

I'm also really glad we're keeping the prime 2 & 3 style fed trooper armor. Loved this design so much I shamelessly ripped it off for a student 3D animation project when I was like 15 (this screenshot is the most you'll ever see of that :P)

The vibe I'm getting from the Metroid Prime 4 previews is that the game has a tutorial with lots of dialogue and involves more characters than Prime 1. Fair complaint, but also in line with where the Prime series was when we last left it so kinda what I was expecting.

I had wondered if Metroid Prime 4 would go with the realism of the OG Metroid Prime or the more stylized characters of 2 and 3. Guess this answers that!

Playstation saw Xbox putting their games on other platforms and having success and decided that must be the solution. Completely forgetting that you do still have to release the games on your own platform as well.

So obviously the news sucks but the emotional journey @pearlmania500.bsky.social is going on in the thumbnails cracks me up. A tragedy in two acts.

The absolute audacity to not even change the name

The rest of the hunters and the thumbnail with no text

Since I had them all handy, I figured I might as well make SOMETHING so have some wallpapers :)

These models are all pulled from Super Smash Bros Brawl but have had their materials reworked/remade. Samus is actually the gravity suit trophy but I re-colored her armor.

I also need you all to know that the rest of the hunters are standing just out of frame in this render because I'm not an efficient person and wasn't sure who I was going to want in the thumbnail.

I ripped one of the stages from Metroid Prime Hunters. Without replacing any original textures I just added bump, spec, and luminosity maps and tried to match the vertex lighting with real lights to see what it would look like. Kinda crazy how much detail they managed to get from the DS.

oh wait hold on.
November 4, 2025 at 2:48 PM
Can anyone give me an example of a Hero-Shooter that predates Metroid Prime Hunters in 2006? Not a class-based shooter but one with all individually named characters that have distinct abilities unique to each character.

In Metroid Prime Hunters when you enter these hallways you are not actually entering a room on the map. Rather every hallway is this same hallway and it exists outside the map. Where the doors lead just changes. If you open the map at the right moment it takes a moment to decide what room you're in.

Don't make me tap the sign (in this case the sign is an interview from 2002)

With Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment coming out next week, I'm curious if it clears up TOTK's timeline problems or makes them worse. All they need to do is have a random line where Zelda refers to it as the "first" Imprisoning War.

Even in the world of pre-rendered 3D I occasionally cheat this. The Christmas tree in this shot is a bunch of alpha transparencies for the branches so in the center you get a ton of layers built up. I set up my render to test the first few but beyond them just sorta make it solid green.

One of the complaints is how much it reuses stuff. A lot of that comes down to how its doing streaming like this on the DS. Each planet has a few generic joining rooms that it can instance with new start and end points based on where you are in the map. Trying to match the GC titles on a DS is wild.
