The Secret Base doc on Dave Stieb was great but funny enough, my favorite part was the fact that 14 minutes of it was dedicated solely to what Rickey Henderson did in the 1989 ALCS. I watched this three times earlier this week just because. Ain't gonna be another Rickey, man. youtu.be/eaTCyQMyOu8...

silo is a funny show because if i lived in a dystopia consisting of 10,000 people living on 144 floors of a silo separated by stairs i wouldn't be interested in murder mystery or the world outside i'd be complaining oooauughhhh another day of stairs i hate the founders so much this is so many stairs

Dudes will be like “check out how cool this AI is” and ask it a question that you could have just googled the answer to five years ago, and that interaction has the carbon footprint of a house fire

I've thought about this way too much - like okay, we love radio waves but we also know absolutely no other species we've ever met thinks that's the be-all-end-all. Fermi Paradox is looking for ourselves out there but I can't imagine anyone would have the same socio-cultural-techno-history as us.
i think my favorite answer to the fermi paradox is that we are just doing the equivalent of searching for telegraph wires in modern nyc and finding none and going “wow, no one’s talking around here!” like we’re gonna find aliens one day and they’re gonna be like u were looking for us with RADIO?

In Four Futures, Frase warned that one outcomes of the collapse of capitalism amid climate crisis was "exterminism" - a hostile ideology that sought to eliminate those people displaced by these failing systems. Watching Canada get lock-step behind an open genocide is thus painfully explicable.

"The Israel-Hamas war is the first major test of the new Twitter. It has confirmed what we knew — the new space is more toxic and hostile, less reliable, and, in short, a threat to the flow of essential public information at home and around the world," writes @davidmoscrop.bsky.social
Information Breakdown During Wartime
The Israel-Hamas war tested the new Twitter. The platform failed and confirmed what we already knew — the space is utterly cynical, toxic, and unreliable.

This is not true. Full enforcement could be implemented now as city staff has outlined. The council is pushing this back purposely to avoid utilizing current enforcement mechanisms in hopes that the province will not amend existing legislation to provide an alternate avenue for enforcement.

A blockade of 2 million people is by any definition collective punishment, not merely something that “aid groups say.”
The Palestinian territory of Gaza has been under an Israeli blockade since Hamas seized control of the coastal strip in 2007. Israel says it's necessary to stop the flow of arms into Gaza, but Palestinians and aid groups say it is collective punishment.
Gaza Has Suffered Under 16-Year Blockade
Held in place by Israel and Egypt, the blockade restricts imports to the region and prevents most people from leaving.
