At the start of this year, three of the institutions most important to American cultural preservation—the National Archives, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History—were run by women for the first time.

As of today, Trump has fired two of those three.
Colleen Shogan was the first woman confirmed as archivist of the United States; she was fired in 2025 by Donald Trump. Carla Hayden is the first woman to be confirmed as librarian of Congress; she was fired by Donald Trump in 2025.

These individuals have described Ms. Öztürk as a valued member of the community, dedicated to her academic pursuits and committed to her colleagues.

I will take her word on what counts as classified information for military pilots over someone whose military experience is that their own national guard unit had him removed from a presidential inauguration over concerns he violently opposed democratic norms.
