Hey news media, I know it's a tradition for you to end the year with a look back on the biggest stories of the last 12 months, but can we just skip that this time?

That said, we should regulate guns.

Agree with this thread. Worth reading in full.

25 years ago John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and AC Barrett all worked on GWBush's 2000 Florida recount team. What they're doing now is, if anything, more nakedly partisan.

Fire-breathing dissent by Kagan, with Sotomayor and Jackson.
They're not even trying to appear nonpartisan anymore.
#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three democratic appointees, #SCOTUS puts Texas's new House maps back into effect for (and, presumably, through) the 2026 midterms.

The three Democratic appointees, in an opinion by Justice Kagan, dissent.

I'll post the ruling shortly.

I take the usual touristy shots on vacation, but my favorite photos are of people doing their people things. This is from a bay near Phuket, Thailand, last month.

Quoted here talking about Alabama's decision to remove funding from student publications they claim run afoul of Trump Administration "non-discrimination" mandates.

TL;DR: That's hogwash and just cover to restrict students' 1A rights.

I'm wondering how many millions of dollars our government will have to pay out once some of these cases end up in civil court.
More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

I’m more used to saying this to people on the Left than people on the Right, but, “hate speech” is not an exception to the First Amendment. “Hate speech” is protected by the First Amendment unless it falls into a traditional established exception.
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

I am heartbroken by the horrific violence at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Events like these should not be our "normal." The simple solution is to pass sensible gun control. Without that, these tragedies will continue to happen, and children will continue to die.

I know a fair number of people on the MAGA right from my past - including key figures in the current Trump regime.

They hate modern America, its institutions, multiculturalism, the Democrats, “the media” and many, if not most, Americans.

Hate. That’s what drives them to tear it all down.
