Can I tell you about a little project that took six years from proposal stage to release?

Community of Praxis is a fully peer-reviewed scholarly podcast about teaching and learning. It’s also (I think) fun, accessible, and a little bit radical in its focus on care.

It’s out today!
Today we launch Community of Praxis, a new podcast with Brenna Clarke Gray. Twice monthly Brenna sits down for critical chats about teaching and learning to invite a more care-centred, student-focused approach into classrooms, while still minding structural limitations like time and precarity.

I like paying taxes. Genuinely. Not grudgingly. I can’t pave a road, I can’t build and staff a hospital. $200 in my pocket won’t pay for my kid’s daycare but if we all pool our money it might. I really wish someone on the left would be brave enough to be like, “Taxes are good, actually.”

1. The far right is falsely spreading that a new study shows that surgery "doubles depression" for transgender people.

This is an egregious misreading of the study, which does not look at transgender people before and after surgery.

Lets dig in.
Debunked: No, New Study Does Not Show Transgender Surgeries Double Depression
The study, which has been paraded around right-wing media sources, does not evaluate the impact of surgery on transgender depression rates.

there was a good study out of germany that seemed to show that increasing national immigration generated backlash... but *local* immigration levels drove increasing acceptance of immigrants

the people who are most bothered by immigrants are least affected
To claim that somehow Americans all had some sort of widespread negative experience with immigrants is just beyond any possible comprehensible reality.

They are having negative experiences in their lives and are then being told immigrants are the cause.

Critically examining that is essential.

Alberta just admitted that it's willing to bypass 🇨🇦 constitutional protections re: the right "to life, liberty and security of the person" and "not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment" in order to uphold a GAC ban.

This is bad.

👇👇👇Why I was reluctant to join another Jack Dorsey joint as pointed out by people's comment in my pinned post.

What are we doing differently here? What are we going to be doing proactively?
I see a lot of posts here on Blusky with "here is so nice, it's like the old Twitter" type of posts. Like the old Twitter was a kind place to be. The old Twitter ignored any abuse report we made, us minority people were left to receive abuse and death threats for years on without any protection.

One long day filled with horrendous news for trans people later, one thing is apparent:

Transphobes don’t want to “protect vulnerable youth”.

They want to eliminate trans people altogether.

Genocide has always been the end goal. Except, it hasn’t been acceptable to admit that till very recently.
