I swam with some beautiful Mediterranean/ fittingly named fried egg jellyfish (Cotylorhiza tuberculata) off the coast of Tossa de Mar in Spain in a little cove.
It was incredible swimming amongst a swarm of ~100 individuals. More videos to come!

A little terror for your Tuesday!

Basket star filmed by ROV pilots at ~270 m during the #Taleof2Canyons — these many-armed ophiuroids capture prey w/ease. Escape is unlikely thanks to tiny hooks & sticky mucus-covered limbs. Once ensnared, tube feet shuttle the meal towards the animal’s mouth.

Benthic siphonophores! aka Sea Dandelions! GORGEOUS, weird & deadly! All those thin threads? stinging cells! but also holding the animal in place. It has created a curtain of death around it as food gets stung and eaten! #okeanos Lumpy Seamount North Atlantic #saveNOAA

This octopus is a sucker for jellies 🐙✨️

The seven-armed octopus, Haliphron atlanticus, has only been observed by MBARI’s ROVs three times in more than three decades. This one was holding the bell of an egg-yolk jellyfish in its arms—perhaps using its meal for defense or to help catch more prey.

Kind of Valentine’s Day related. One of my favorite videos I've taken, showing a female Oreochromis amphimelas releasing her fry.

This is an endangered species; however, they breed readily in captivity, so maybe there is still hope!

Toughest fish on Earth? Mummichogs are a euryhaline species, which means they can survive a range of salinities from freshwater to water that has 110g salt/L. Heralded as the first fish species in outer space, they even evolved resistance to toxic chemicals that would kill other fish. #TeleostTalk 🧪

The UK’s smallest freshwater fish, the ninespine stickleback (Pungitius pungitius).
If you look closely, you can see the nine spines in front of the dorsal fin, from which it gets its name.

I hope you all enjoy this photo and video of an adorable Three-lined Cory (Hoplisoma trilineatum) and its friends as much as I enjoyed capturing them. I have many more fish photos and videos to come!

If you go diving in SE Asia and you have a camera, you have a legal requirement to take this photo when the opportunity presents itself. I don't make the rules.

Here are some pictures of the eggs and fry of some Farlowella vittata that I look after. They have started laying their eggs on the front of the tank!
If you look closely at the video in the replies of the day old fry on the glass you can see its heart beating.

For my first post on the new app I wanted to introduce everyone to a species they may not know much about and my favourite animal. The African butterfly fish (Pantodon buchholzi). They get their name from their beautiful pectoral fins that resemble a butterfly from above.
