It is indeed very sad news. And although Edinburgh and Scotland was the place where David was most active in recent years, for more than 50 years he has been a leading thinker, writer, and activist on a European stage. In @socialeurope.bsky.social @europeanmovement.co.uk & elsewhere. A true European
That is such sad news. David has been a wise presence in Edinburgh for many years. Condolences to family and friends.
it is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of David Hume Institute trustee, David Gow. Our thoughts are with his wife and family.

This is not a good look for the Lib Dems. I speak as a 70 year old who has voted Lib/ LD the vast majority of my life

The assumption that asylum seekers are criminals and not to be trusted is wrong. The underlying xenophobia doesn't reflect well

Not minor, really.
Incredibly minor point in the grand scheme of the horror of this policy, but this would mean that many women with ILR would be unable to go on maternity leave unless they had a very high salary or an amazing employer package.
The Conservatives have drafted the legislation.

ANY one of the conditions being met leads to ILR being revoked.

If annual income falls below £38,700 for six months (for any reason at all)

The Secretary of State would also have the powers add whatever further conditions they want.

Category capped at 40k visas a year. This will probably create backlogs and processing delays for aliens who actually have extraordinary ability
So they found a legal workaround for the “Gold Card” - anyone who donates a million bucks automatically qualifies as an “alien of extraordinary ability”. Totally absurd but probably will stick. No one will have standing to challenge.

I find this action by the Council to be highly antisocial.
The benches at the Kirkgate in Leith have been removed.
Has a crime been committed 🤔
