Good morning Edinburgh

My colleagues @uoelawschool.bsky.social recently put up our previous graduation photographs on the wall in the School. It's a very impressive display. Great to see how things have changed over the years, not least the shift to colour photos. Here's just a couple of views.

On my way to Florence for the @globalcit.bsky.social workshop on citizenship in wider Europe. Looking forward to catching up with old friends including @jdzankic.bsky.social and @maartenpvink.bsky.social. It was a stunning journey down to London City from Edinburgh.

Yesterday was exhausting but joyful. Thanks to @tripkovicmilena.bsky.social for the sneaky pic from the back of the hall. The collage also features another of life's little joys: travelling up the Walk at the front of the big bus.

I think anyone would want to swim in this.

On my way to do the Kessock Swim (across the Kessock Firth in Inverness and back - theoretically 1200m, because of tides more like 1600m). Looking forward to doing it another year with less trepidation, but happy to have managed it.

It's been generally fine on the Easter Ross peninsula....

Not entirely sure which one I prefer.

A trip to Seacliff beach where there has been a deep clean of the beach and some women were enjoying the bouncy waves. Very jealous.

Early morning walk in Tain.

The sandy beach has become stony. Still some rollers, but huge fun at the beach this morning, with the Shandwick Bay sea swimmers, for an "after the storm" dip in the water.

Contrasts. Same peninsula. Different aspects (easterly and north westerly). Taken within 30 minutes today.

Turku, but without any pictures of the conference venue Kakola (forgot to take any). I only ever seem to come here in October (2023; 2018; 2015). I wonder if the city exists at other times of the year.

Today's academic 'gig' is a different sort of pleasure: speaking at the 15th anniversary celebrations of the Turku Institute of Advanced Studies. Great to meet lots of people I've only met before on zoom or teams, or by email. Turku is looking great in autumn sunshine.
