My message to the Democrats of the 119th Congress, which officially begins tomorrow:
Use this time in the minority to build consensus within the caucus for bold, populist, progressive reforms that will inspire the base and tackle the root of the problems we face.
Give people hope.

Could not be more happy about this singular outcome. If Russia can be made to properly lose, peace and freedom still have a fighting chance in many respects, Trump and Musk notwithstanding.

The pro-democracy coalition may be presented with a generational opportunity at FDR levels to sweep into power and enact earth shattering reforms that endure for generations.
Would we be ready to seize upon that moment? Not yet. We are broken and fragmented and in denial about our problems.

Democrats have to decide whether they want to learn from voters or presume to teach them without their consent. I have spent most of my life on the second side of that coin. It’s finally clear to me that I was mistaken on that point.

Before Russia invaded Ukraine at full scale the same preachy voices told everyone it wouldn’t happen and it was simply not plausible until it happened. Finland and the Baltics aren’t going to listen to pointless voices. They know the Russian invasion force is coming, the date is to be determined.

I wish this advice was being heeded by established journos in prominent places. Some people are very competent yet lack the imagination to take these things seriously.
