Saturday's capture of Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro isn't the first time the U.S. entered a Latin American country by force to seize its leader on drugs charges.
Maduro's capture draws echoes of Noriega in 1990
What comes next is likely years of court battles over how Maduro is charged, how he's treated and where he's held.

‘Iraq 2.0’: Democrats seethe at Trump’s surprise Venezuela strike
The operation quickly united rank-and-file lawmakers behind a message that the president illegally bypassed Congress and has no plan for the aftermath.

As a former retail worker, I'd like to remind everyone that you do not 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 to go shopping tomorrow. Not at 2am, 10am, 2pm, or at all. Kill the demand and let the workers have a break.

If you absolutely must, be kind to each other, and extra kind to the workers. They miss their families.

Re-posting an old thread from Twitter.

November 5th, for movie buffs, is a day of remembering. "Remember, remember..." If you know, you know.

But November 5th is more than just Guy Fawkes Day, if you were fortunate enough to know a particular individual even more worth remembering today.

This is definitely one of those things that people would’ve called you hysterical for predicting a year ago.

Trump is going to destroy the East Room of the White House without even asking Congress and build a ballroom with funds from private companies that are seeking favors? Settle down, lib.
Scoop: Trump has started demolishing the White House's East Wing facade to build his ballroom. The president had claimed construction of the $250 million building wouldn’t ‘interfere’ with the existing White House structure. /W @ddiamond.bsky.social wapo.st/4hqBNiU

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command…. And if all others accepted the lie which the Party imposed–if all records told the same tale–then the lie passed into history and became truth." —George Orwell, 1984 This past weekend witnessed what may have been the largest single-day political protest in American history.

Here's a gift link to the New York Times' coverage of the initial Tea Party rallies in April 2009 which inspired the media to treat it like a massive movement.

Check out how tiny the crowds were:

Philly: 200
DC: "several hundred"
Boston: 500
Austin: 1,000
Houston: 2,000

‼️ this is one of the reasons why the Musk shutdown of USAID broke me, like

Congress said 'we're allocating these funds to save lives'

a random asshole with too much money and unresolved bitterness about the end of Apartheid said 'no you're not'

so the funding disappeared??

and people are dying??
There's literally no reason for Congress to exist if any random freak in the presidential orbit can nullify laws and seize federal funds. All of this is plainly illegal, but Mike Johnson leads the most corrupt Congress in US history (and by a wide margin.)

Now they worry about surviving winter. Weeks ago, they sold their daughter’s bed to pay rent.
