![⭕️ BREAKING: Police and the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security agency) have arrested an Israeli man accused of beating 53-year-old Palestinian woman Afaf Abu Alia in the north of Ramallah, last month, in viral scenes captured by American journalist Jasper Nathaniel.
She was attacked with a club studded with nails while she was harvesting olives near the village of Turmus Ayya, Ynet confirmed. The report said Israeli authorities described the case as a “suspected terrorist act of assault and sabotage”—a rare designation, as Israel almost never labels settler violence against Palestinians as terrorism.
The suspect’s detention has been extended until November 16, with investigators vowing “to uncover the truth and bring those involved to justice.”
The arrest coincides with a delegation of French MEPs visiting the West Bank on a fact-finding mission into violations of international law. Manon Aubry, co-chair of The Left group in the European Parliament, said: “While the genocide continues in Gaza, colonization is intensifying in the West Bank: stolen lands, escalating settler violence, and suffocated [Palestinian] economy.”
She called upon Europe to recognize the gravity of the situation and to act in response.
Her visit comes amid an unprecedented surge in settler attacks.
