Oh no! RIP Bela Tarr 🖤
'The Turin Horse is an apocalyptic tale of unrelenting nihilism, suggesting an unholy union of Miklós Jancsó, Antonioni and Beckett. It makes Waiting For Godot seem like an episode of Teletubbies'

The United States will spend years manufacturing consent for a war by bombarding us with relentless propaganda about some foreign country that has never done anything to us, 80% of the population will still be against it, and then they'll just invade them anyway.

Gender — and restrictive gender roles — are core to authoritarian projects. Society uses concepts of gender to sort people. Data both reflects and imposes these social definitions.

what's in a data gap?
The project to redefine transgender data tells us some things about authoritarianism.

Findings about "informational autocracies" that are of broader relevance, in this 🧵:
Social media functions as a "distorted mirror," explains @pumashen.bsky.social, e.g. 3% of accounts generate 33% of posts; 1% of online communities are responsible for 74% of conflict; 0.1% of users drive 80% of #disinformation.

The strategic response is to neutralize methods of mass amplification.
