Where is the line? What Rubicon would need to be crossed before the UK acts over Trump’s geopolitical ambitions?

With tariffs now threatened against EU allies simply for respecting the sovereignty of a NATO member, that question is urgent and can no longer go unanswered. #NATO #Greenland #Trump

Bannon the latest in the “Britain doesn’t manufacture anything” brigade. It’s a lazy trope you hear repeated in the media a lot.

In fact the UK remains the 8th or 9th biggest manufacturer in the world. 10% of our GDP with some of the most advanced manufacturing anywhere.

I wrote a new piece for foreign policy.

The US's postwar role as guarantor of Europe’s security is over – and may even turn adversarial. But Europe has an overlooked trump card.

When it comes to manufacturing Europe blows the US out of the water.

A poignant question…..
Yesterday’s meeting of like-minded Western countries in London was a success. But why weren’t Latvia, Lithuania & Estonia invited? They spend a lot on defence and regard themselves as Putin’s possible next target.

I keep reading that Zelensky shouldn't have risen to the bait.

The man is human. He's seen tens of thousands of Ukrainians murdered, their cities blown apart & their children stolen.

He was sitting by a man who's looting his country's minerals & praising Putin.

And for 40 minutes, he held it in.

I don't think most people realise how completely our military and intelligence services are entwined with the US.

We may well need to become more independent, but it's not something that can happen overnight.
I see a lot of "no more", "isolate the US", "stand with Europe", etc. But what does that look like? Do we recall diplomatic staff and kick theirs out? Stop sharing FiVeEYes intel? NATO expulsion (no mechanism)? UN resolution? Scrap AUKUS? What form does "no more" take? What are the consequences?

The government is right to increase defence spending in the face of concerning developments between America & Russia.

But cuts to international aid is worrying and will allow President Putin and Xi to fill the gap left by Britain to increase their soft power.
