Y'know how in Dante's Inferno, the lowest rung of Hell is frozen and is reserved for betrayers, who are chewed in Lucifer's three mouths for eternity? I think the insurance co doctors who deny patients medicine and care they need to get paid exorbitantly go there. They betray their oath every day.

a good part of me thinks that in addition to everything else, the reason they are scrubbing these stories is they do not want disadvantaged kids to believe they can aspire to anything other than their designated “black” or “hispanic” or “woman” job

These people don't have friends, they have useful and not useful people that can either be exploited or dismissed. Everything is transactional, so there are no real human connections, and everyone is seen through a lens of hyper, sociopathic utilitarianism.

When I was a Hill staffer in 2009, a Dem trifecta was trying to pass universal healthcare. In response, Senate GOP released a memo detailing all of the tactics they in the minority could use to delay the effort as much as possible. I'm recirculating that 2009 GOP memo here. Take inspiration from it.
