I am excited to announce that I will be moving to IMB Mainz next year! The Winter call for the IPP PhD program is now open; if you are interested in maternal #mRNA regulation and #translation in early vertebrate development, please apply! Deadline: 16 October.

Excited to share the (hard) work of @zawarshah.bsky.social in its final form: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

A lot of insights into RNA Polymerase selectivity at snRNAs promoters !! As these promoters are often used for heterologous expression of RNAs (ie guide RNAs), you better know how they work
Structural insights into distinct mechanisms of RNA polymerase II and III recruitment to snRNA promoters - Nature Communications
The snRNA Activating Protein Complex (SNAPc) mediates snRNA transcription by RNA Pol II and III. Here, the authors have used cryo-EM to resolve the structure of the SNAPc-bound RNA Pol III pre-initiat...

A big round of applause 👏👏👏 to our postdoc Amy Nabih for securing an #EMBO postdoc fellowship! Amy will investigate how maternal age impacts embryo development, using zebrafish as a model system. Very curious to see what Amy will find out about this interesting new topic in our lab!
🎉Congratulations to our Amena Nabih, postdoc in the
@pauligroup.bsky.social, who received an EMBO fellowship to study how maternal age influences embryo development!

The life of each of us began when a sperm and an egg came together. But what happens at a molecular level?

Our latest work in Cell led by @vdeneke.bsky.social & Andreas Blaha reveals a conserved fertilization complex that bridges sperm and egg in vertebrates! (1/11)

How is protein degradation inhibited in dormant cells? The @haselbachlab.bsky.social discovered that proteasomes are blocked by PITHD1, e.g. in dormant zebrafish eggs. Very happy that we (josefroe.bsky.social @pauligroup.bsky.social) could contribute to this very interesting mechanistic work!

We are very excited to share our recent preprint on the nuclear import mechanism of the proteasome, driven by the multivalent adaptor AKIRIN2! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... 🧵 1/6
A multivalent adaptor mechanism drives the nuclear import of proteasomes
Nuclear protein homeostasis, including the turnover of transcription factors, critically depends on nuclear proteasomes. After each cell division, proteasomes need to be re-imported into the newly for...
