I am from NYC and like to read and engage about a range of subjects, including history, the Supreme Court, politics, and the Mets. Let's see how this goes.

Pronouns: He/Him.

I have much content online including at Joe's Substack and Teach N Thrive.
Irin Carmon's book is excellent. It provides human stories while incorporating the reporting Carmon is known for. She also personally knows the subject as the mother of 2.

Republicans don't seem to care. At most, a few will make a few concerned noises. This is their leader. This is the person for whom the House was left closed for 2+ months to delay voting on the Epstein files to help. This is who a bunch of them sucked up to, including when he was on trial in NYC.

I enjoyed this film over the weekend. She was also in the goofy film with Nicholas Cage, Mom & Dad.

This is not a new book, but it was on display at the library. It is pretty good. It argues he set forth a precedent of a partisan Chief Justice. Roberts, his law clerk, followed his mentor's path. One tidbit: Rehnquist wanted to write fiction, but each effort was not up to cuff. #SCOTUS

This is a very personal book with a lot of personal stuff that might surprise some readers. It definitely will give trolls fodder. Overall, a good read. I suppose she wrote it herself. It doesn't cite a co-author. I figure an Oxford grad can handle that.

Malala Yousafzai provides some rather personal details in this book. Some details the average daughter might not want her parents to know, for instance. BTW, to remind, she is still under 30.

I first read about this book years ago via a review by Ronald Dworkin (LD was Hand's clerk/ he loved the man, but they had quite different views on judicial power). It's too long for me (these days) to read the whole thing but skimming it. Lots of interesting stuff.

This film was on TCM on Sunday.

The film is three short subjects. The charm is some of the performances. Shirley MacLaine is wonderful, for instance.

@duffyj.bsky.social played Nellie Bly

Good summary including the correct application of "defund the police" -- that is, reducing its footprint in areas where their duties are better done by others, here in the area of mental heath. #VoteMamdani
