Make it make sense... any of it... all of it. UK to PDX. RCTID & HTAFC. Research Admin. 10x JoCoNaut. Crochet newb. 2x breast cancer survivor, no fucks left to give. She/her.
Every single one of these clips was taken today in downtown Portland. Portland doesn’t want or need a federal takeover. If Trump insists on sending federal “resources” he can start with funding health care, bridges, affordable housing, and wildfire protection to name a few.

Here we go again! 😥 #RAdminsky #NIH
The president just issued an executive order asserting new and wide-ranging authority over the issuance of federal grants. This will have huge repercussions for the daily operations of US science. 🧪

Also, lawyers are gonna be lawyering.

🧪 Senate appropriators say: NIH's budget gets a... boost!

Rather than 40% cut, NIH gets a $400M *increase* in the Senate committee bill for FY26 (about +1%).

"Congress has your back," said @murray.senate.gov.

ADVOCACY MATTERS! There's still a long road (esp in the House), so keep up pressure.

The Grant Submission Process Part 1B
We went through the basics of the grant submission process last time, but there were some aspects that are helped by understanding how to read a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). We’ll go over the parent R01 announcement:

#RAdminsky Devastating cuts to science 😢
The President’s entire budget proposal destroys the state as we know it, and not in any kind of liberatory way. Here are the proposed NIH & NSF cuts. There will be no coming back from this.

#RAdminsky We have also been told by a PO that cancellations are coming for grants to foreign orgs and grants with foreign subawards 😢
Hearing that the IC directors and SDs at NIH were told last night that a new round of DOGE contract cuts are coming.

Control, co-opt, destroy. That’s the plan for #NIH and US science and medical cures from Trump.

Secretary Kennedy has said that making HHS more efficient means getting rid of administrative bloat.

But is it only administrators getting “streamlined”? Happy April Fools Day, except this is not remotely funny.

On Transgender Day of Visibility & we couldn't be more proud of the cruisers who came together to create and display this banner as we left port. We love this community & we believe that JoCo Cruise is better because of our transgender & non-binary family, friends, colleagues, guests & performers

OK hive mind... we're in the market for a new 65-75" TV, what brands/features should we be looking for. We use Apple TV for streaming, don't use it for gaming, just TV and occasional movies. What things do I need to consider? It's been quite a while since I did this so not sure of latest tech!

Our org is a small non-university research operation - we won't be able to survive on that level of IDCs 😥
🚨RED ALERT for 🧪:

The Trump NIH just gashed indirect costs. This is a direct attack on universities.

“Pursuant to this Supplemental Guidance, there will be a standard rate of 15% across all NIH grants for indirect costs.” 😮

Just a devastating Friday night news dump. #scicomm #academicaky

Why should the public care about the freeze on the NIH? Aside from the need for scientific pursuits to make our society better…
-For every dollar we invest in NIH research, there is a $2.5 return.
-Research dollars help fund universities that employ non-academics. (1/)

Oh boy, that could be my job disappearing. We rely on NIH grant funding and if no pending projects are being reviewed that will eventually cause cash-flow issues & stop the research! 😲😥 Interested to know if this might also affect transfers and non-competitive renewals at all.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

Hello! It's been a hot minute since I did the whole twitter thing, but being here *really* feels like the early days when there was so much fun & community on there! Not sure if I'm going to get drawn back into regular use just yet, but it's nice seeing familiar faces and the ongoing banter ❤️
