Bee-autifully crafted gold ornament in the form of a little bee 🐝 ❤️

Length 1.90 cm. From Minoan Crete, circa 1700-1600 BC.

The British Museum image shows a Minoan gold ornament in the form of bee viewed from above against a black background. The bee is symmetrical in shape. It has a round head with two large circular eyes. The body is elongated tapering to a point. An almond-shaped wing extends diagonally downward on each side of the body. The body is decorated with rows of tiny raised granules (gold balls) and thin bands, creating a striped abdomen. The wings are outlined with granules and the inner wing is smooth. Length 1.9 centimetres. From Minoan Crete circa 1700-1600 BC.

My photo shows an exceptionally well-preserved pair of women's flat leather slip on shoes decorated with gold leaf. The leather appears dark brown in colour, but originally it may have been purple or red. They have a high front coming up to a double lobed extension. The heel finishes with a high back tab. The tab on the right shoe has not survived. The front of each shoe is embellished with a gold disc-shaped motif enclosing eight smaller circles which looks similar to the circular rotary dial of an old-fashioned telephone! Within each of the small circles is an embroidered star. Length 26cm. Max width 8cm. From Egypt, circa 300-500 AD, Coptic period. On display at the V&A Museum, London.
