The timing of this betrayal really makes it looks like they were holding out only for the votes. Nothing that they have done in my lifetime really dissuades that interpretation.

In case I sound like I'm talking theory here:

People don't hate us because we have a medical condition that they just don't understand, they hate us because we fail to perform the roles of "man" or "woman" as designated and threaten the whole system of labor extraction / reproduction by existing.
Cis people should understand how gender works materially, not speculate philosophically.

The violence against trans people is gendered oppression, a subset of an almost ubiquitous violence that controls and punishes non-men to reduce their social power and the cost of their labor relative to men.
So I guess the idea is...what is the foundational thing cis folk will have to tie the concept into? Race? Further up the chain, even if only by a bit.

Gender identity is the FIRST thing we learn about ourselves. I mean, breathe...slap! "It's a...".

Maybe breathing is it. Mostly not thought about.

They will blame Trans people. They will blame Muslims. They will blame the Left. But this is on the establishment Dems, and the white people who refuse to get past their racism, and the cis-het people who refuse to get past their bigotry. This is on white supremacy and those who collaborate with it.

The only thing that surprised me this morning is how powerless I *didn't* feel. Everywhere I look I see resilience. Defiance. We are bloody and battered, but I'm meeting your gaze today and we are clear-eyed.

2016 broke so many of us. 2024 and beyond? We do the breaking.

Let's go to work.

Really insightful piece. I found this section especially incisive with respect to the bad faith in which a trans panic is being fomented using sports as a wedge:

this is the thing: the risk of denying a legitimate voter the chance to vote is far more damaging to democracy than the risk of letting someone vote who should not.
The country has a long history of voter suppression and so little history of real voter fraud.
So, yes, the GOP court is corrupt AF

The Conservative disinformation machine is working overtime to convince leftists that Kamala hates trans people.

It’s a fucking lie.

Let them waste their money. They want you not to vote. They want you not to engage. Tell them to fuck off.

I’m voting for Harris, and you should too.

failing to vote because you don't like the system is like refusing to tip waitstaff because you think minimum wage ought to be raised. it's a personal exercise, somewhere between ablution and masturbation, and the kid serving you lunch still goes home hungry.
abstention is not an option. refusing to make even the slightest concession toward keeping fascists out of power isn't a brave and lonely stand. it is the sin of scrupulosity, the overruling desire the keep oneself clean--and it has never yet delivered anyone from harm.

Some people believe that not voting for Kamala will somehow punish Democratic leadership when it will actually punish abortion seekers, LGBTQ people, immigrants and their families, and, yes, anti-war activists

Fuck common ground.

Random Thought: The one aspect that is even semi-relatable about Trump is his apparent love of McDonalds. I just realized that the likely reason why that over everything else is likely an act of narcissism on his part given that his name is part of their name.

Musk himself said he'd comply with local laws regarding what people do on Twitter, and again, he's done so often.

But curiously, only in compliance with right wing governments.

That's why there's no principle here: he only applies this stance to governments on the left.

There's no defense.

The transiest thing I did pre-transition, was to only be willing to act in a church play if I got to be in one of the 2 roles cast for the boys to crossdress. I got especially excited when they originally planned to get real dresses sized to the actors.
The transient thing I ever did was hiding as a toddler when my parents had new adults over and wanted to introduce me because being introduced as a boy felt like lying.
The transiest thing i did pretransition was being a Girl Scout.

Remember, kids: if you deliberately burn down your house to collect insurance money, it's fraud. But if you deliberately delete a completed movie without releasing it for a tax write-off, it's clever accounting.
