We're expecting another update from Vancouver Police later tonight about the tragedy at Lapu Lapu Day.
After that, we probably won't know much more for many hours.
Given the global attention already on it, a lot of speculation will inevitably happen.

I've heard back from the City of Vancouver.
They confirmed that they have approximately 265 staff "currently in the field" working the byelection.
That's a 79% dropoff from the 2017 byelection.
Odd they didn't mention that in their original explanation to media as to why lines were so long.

I've cracked the code of why byelection lineups are so long in Vancouver today.
It's not just a turnout question.
Compared to the 2017 byelection, the city decreased the number of election workers by EIGHTY PERCENT.
From 1,250 in 2017 to 250 this time around.
This was a staff recommendation.

I made the move over to Bluesky but can't find out any information on hyper local issues - who do I need to follow in Vancouver to hear about school closures, snow conditions etc? I left X but not finding the #bcstorm and #localnews.... please suggest for #vancouver and #metrovancouver. Thanks!
