Calling the lethal strike on men clinging to the capsized remains of a boat a “war crime” implicitly accepts the framing that the U.S. is legitimately engaged in war. We are not. It was murder.

When I was at NIH and shutdowns loomed, it was discovered that the administration was planning to shut down PubMed. The head of NCBI called the powers that be and pointed out that this would threaten patient safety

Who knows what will happen now

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Public transit should be free. I took a ride on the Orange line to talk to riders about how we can keep more money in your pocket. Boston is leading the way. And @ayannapressley.bsky.social and I won’t stop fighting to make this dream a reality.

The idea that we can gene edit for a specific list of “obvious” congenital defects without having ethical conversations about what constitutes a “defect” and what doesn’t is laughable.

While progressives often get accused of undermining the Democratic Party, the evidence shows that it’s the moderate wing that most often violates the “Vote Blue No Matter Who” principle.

If you care about Medicaid, I need your help. These kids are the best chance we have of saving Medicaid.

Families are on the way to DC. We need to cover van rentals and hotel rooms. I will not, I will NOT, waste your money or time.

Can you help get this donation link in front of your people?

The liberatory power of mass literacy has been established across half a millennia.

When you begin with this fact, everything from Silicon Valley fantasies of post-literacy to MAGA book bans fall neatly in line.

Literacy is the foundation of democratic society.

It must be enclosed & economized.

I've been thinking similar things since the other morning when I was on the subway and I saw a guy clearly on drugs (he made it clear by saying so) in dockers and a gingham shirt telling two strangers that their baby was so beautiful it made him want to be a father.

I hope US folks on the No Kings rallies know how much people outside the US are heartened to see them. We always knew the US is full of very fine people who totally reject and revile what's happening, but my god it's good to see it.

Enjoying watching Trump's military parade on BBC and France 24 because it is a wonderful embarrassment for Trump.
As the French commentators point out, the American sodiers don't know how to march & don't seem enthusiastic about doing so for Trump. /1

I didn’t give a wit about new pope coverage, but the first American pope being a man with Black ancestry born in Chicago by way of New Orleans by way of Haiti. Names his self after the pope who condemned slavery? In the Trump era? Oh, baebae, I am HERE for it.

Pope Leo XIV's grandparents were 7th Ward Creoles
The newly elected pontiff, born in Chicago, has ancestral ties to the city’s historic Seventh Ward, according to genealogists at The Historic New Orleans Collection.

Every now again it’s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.
