Annotating a long 3+ day loop of #Hurricane #Melissa from Kingston, #Jamaica radar.

2️⃣ periods appear where an eyewall replacement cycle, #ERC, looked underway. In both cases, inner eyewall stayed intact & outer bands merged, resulting in a larger eye & strengthening after.

A remarkable evolution 🌀

🧵Council made the correct decision last month on the Hyde Park Square development. Instead of going to marriage counseling like council suggested or finding compromise, instead HPNC and this org want to blow the entire thing up. Draw it out.

I finally understand
why bureaucracy is essential:

It takes a just moments to destroy something that took generations to build.

Bureaucracy assures that no one person can make a grievous mistake.

Thanks to @jjunker.bsky.social for inspiring this train of thought today.

Ridership of the Cincinnati Transit Company from 1946-68, the precursor to SORTA

1946 - 132.7 million revenue passengers

1968 - 27.3 million revenue passengers

Huge service cuts and a doom loop of rising costs and fares put the agency in serious crisis by the late 1960s.

Taking these final steps will be instrumental in addressing historic injustices and paving the way for a brighter, more connected future for Cincinnati’s urban core."

Such a mistake
Cincinnati's West End. December 1959.

This was the site of the Laurel-Richmond project in the cleared out land. That project alone displaced 3k families. It was separate from I-75 and Kenyon-Barr.

Almost every building seen in background would be gone by 1974.
