📚💙 I stopped doing *that* Nov writing challenge a few years ago, but I was stuck getting going on the new book. So I made up my own: to write something—even just a sentence—every day.

Yesterday was the halfway point, and I've written 9500 words in those 15 days!!! I'm back, baby!!!!

I spent a gorgeous fall weekend at the Port Gamble Ghost Conference. And I am positively haunted with inspiration and ideas for stories and characters. 100% recommend if you're in the PacNW.

The text message was brief, an address in nearby Green River, followed by 911.
 It was all I needed.
 Emergency calls were part of the job. My job, both as a doctor and a healer. I was already heading out from the family practice, so I called out a goodbye and ran for my car, mentally prepping for injuries, both physical and mystical. Given this team and the demons they fought? It would be plenty of both.
 Flashes of unholy green flickered through the windows as I pulled up in front of the house, tires skidding on the rocky driveway as I hit the brakes, jumping out as the Jeep rumbled to a stop. I raced into the house, dodging broken pieces of furniture until I found the unquestionable source of the emergency call.
 Koh. Tracker, friend—my best friend—sprawled on the floor. Unconscious. Blood darkened her jeans, oozing onto a very expensive rug, the coppery tang strong and familiar. 
 Doctor mode kicked in. I crawled toward her, the visual exam quick but thorough. The lump on her forehead was the most likely cause of her unconsciousness; I’d worry about a possible concussion later. A shard of glass protruded from her thigh, sunk deep in her muscle. Hadn’t nicked the femoral artery or she’d be dead already. Thankfully no one had tried to remove it. The impromptu bandage made from a scarf had helped staunch the bleeding.

It wasn’t a sound meant for human ears. From where Thorn crouched behind a rubbish bin, its rancid stink making it difficult to focus, she could count ten Spotters at least. There were likely more searching adjacent streets and alleyways. Like mould, more Spotters always hid just out of sight. Squinting, head now splitting from the hum of magic, Thorn could just discern the chrome plates of the trackers on their forearms. The devices were capable of detecting human presence with magic. While the blockers she and Thistle wore on their wrists kept them from being discovered on radar, given how many Spotters there were, it wasn’t much of a comfort. The distant booms from the now burning Speak Softly that she and Thistle had been in mere seconds before floated across the air like a warning. As if the magical green flames licking up the sides of the building like a thousand venomous snakes wasn’t enough, the Spotters who’d shut the venue

Once again Oct 30th didn't disappoint!

Though it wasn't quite the great Crow Gathering of Oct 30, 2024, my usual morning meet up with 3-5 begging for kibble was instead a raucous pre-Halloween party with easily 15 friends following me for more than five blocks. Good times were had!
